In mid November Johnny and Cindy Kirk open Stella fine dining restaurant on the Oxford square at 208 S Lamar. Stella first opened in 2004 on the corner of Main and Monroe in downtown Memphis.
“When you are born into a Mississippi Delta farming family, “Earth to table” is more than a catch phrase. It’s a way of life. And it’s a good wholesome way of living,” states the Stella website.
Chef Kirk is a recipient of the “Rising Star of American Cuisine” award by the James Beard Foundation, a nonprofit organization that recognizes talented chefs and food writers.
Kirk grew up in nearby Greenville, Mississippi, where he was immersed in Southern Delta cooking. He then earned his culinary degree at Johnson & Wales University in Charleston, South Carolina.
