The City of Oxford announced that Ronald “Mark” Heath has been appointed by the Board of Aldermen to be the next Fire Chief. Chief Heath joins the department having spent the past thirty years with the City of Memphis, Tenn. where he served as Deputy Chief of Emergency Medical Services.
Heath joined the Oxford Fire Department as Chief Nov. 1, 2016. The Oxford Fire Deportment provides serves to approximately 21,000 residents and 20,000 students on the University of Mississippi campus.
Heath holds a bachelor degree of Professional Studies with a concentration in Public Safety from the University of Memphis and a master’s degree of Science and Operations Management with Certification in Safety and Human Resources from the University of Arkansas.
“I am very grateful to Mayor Patterson, the Board of Alderman and City Oxford to have been selected to serve as the next Fire Chief,” Heath said. “I look forward to the prospects of working in the community as I see ample opportunities to enhance services for the fire department and the city as a whole. As such, I believe there is great potential to partner with the other public safety agencies, the healthcare community, the University of Mississippi and other entities to capitalize on previous fire department success and to move toward further improvements of our capabilities.”
